Sacred Heart Diet

The Seven Day Sacred Heart Diet can Help you Lose Weight Fast

The Sacred Heart diet has been around for decades under many different names, such as the cabbage soup diet, the Cleveland Clinic diet and the Spokane Heart diet. Despite the names no one is quite willing to lay claim to developing the diet and no one really knows where it came from and exactly when.  Perhaps it is because this diet is a bit different and unconventional as the basis of the diet is eating as much soup as you can for seven days, but in reality this diet has been recommended by medical professionals and is a great way to jumpstart your weight loss especially if you have a lot of weight to lose.

The mainstay of this diet is a soup that is made of very specific ingredients, of which you are allowed to eat as much as you need to stay full. The soup is made of stewed tomatoes, beef broth, green onions, Lipton chicken noodle soup mix, celery, peppers, carrots and green beans. You are also allowed a certain amount of seasonings in moderation such as salt, pepper, parsley and bouillon. There are variations around the Internet for this recipe such as the head of cabbage that gave this diet the cabbage soup diet name, but for the most part the recipe stays much the same.

The Sacred Heart diet is very low calorie and makes a great diet for those that have a lot of weight to lose and need to lose some quickly for a variety of reasons such surgery, or advancing heart disease. The diet can be hard to stick to because it is very restrictive, but the soup helps a lot with this as it is a great filler that keeps you from getting hungry but adds little calories or fat to your diet.

Soup is not the only thing that you will eat on this diet however you will also be allowed to have Fruit, vegetables, an occasional baked potato, meat a couple times a week, and brown rice. Each of these foods are recommended on a different day so one day you may eat nothing but soup, vegetables and meat and on another day you may eat nothing but soup and fruit.

There are no limitations on how much you eat on the Sacred Heart diet, but you are expected to eat until you are full and then stop. The idea is to not go hungry, which can set off cravings for other foods. Weight loss on this diet has been exceptional with many people reporting 10 pounds of lost weight in one week. You may repeat the week on the diet but it is advised that you take a couple of days off first before you do.
